Climbing confidently with Type 1 diabetes: Alice's story
Meet Alice
Alice is currently studying wildlife conservation at university while balancing an active and fast-paced lifestyle. Alongside her studies, she works as a gymnastics coach and trains regularly as a competitive cheerleader.
Sport and adventure have always been a big part of Alice’s life. She has previously represented England at the Cheerleading World Championships in Florida and is now preparing to take on one of her biggest personal challenges yet, climbing Kilimanjaro.
For Alice, living with Type 1 diabetes has not changed her ambition to keep exploring new opportunities, travelling and staying active.
Diagnosed with Type 1 diabetes at 18 years old, Alice quickly had to adapt to a completely new routine while continuing to pursue the things she loved most. Rather than stepping back from her goals, she focused on finding ways to make diabetes management work alongside her lifestyle.
Today, Alice uses myLoop powered by CamAPS FX together with the FreeStyle Libre 3 Plus sensor to help support her day-to-day diabetes management.
Staying active with confidence
From training sessions and coaching to travelling and university life, Alice’s routine is constantly changing. Having technology that adapts to her individual needs helps provide greater flexibility throughout the day and added reassurance during physical activity.
As both an athlete and coach, preparation and consistency are important, especially when managing glucose levels around exercise and busy schedules.
Using hybrid closed-loop technology has helped simplify some of the decision-making that comes with managing Type 1 diabetes, allowing Alice to focus more on training, recovery and everyday life.
Diabetes management designed around real life
Everyone’s diabetes journey is different, and Alice knows there are still challenges along the way. But over time, building confidence in her routine and learning what works best for her has helped make living with diabetes feel more manageable.
As she prepares to take on Kilimanjaro, Alice hopes her story encourages others living with Type 1 diabetes to continue pursuing their ambitions and doing the things they enjoy.
